It was a great weekend of racing at PIR. The weather was about as perfect as one could have asked for – perfect temps and the very occasional rain shower just to keep everyone on their toes (and best behavior!) Many thanks to all the volunteers who turned out to help. The upcoming pro races have had a very nice side-effect in that lots of people are volunteering to the regular season races in order to get experience for when the pros come to town. This is a good thing!
There is a CHANGE to the entry to PIR for this event – all entries are through the FRONT GATE (due to other activities on Broadacre) to Start/Finish . There is no early entry on Friday until 5:00pm. Due to the lineup for the Drag Races, for entry AFTER 5:00pm, please use the following: Proceed down entry road – Turn right at first entry to South Paddock – Proceed to right side of drag staging lanes – Proceed to “Club Pit In” Road – Continue down back straight – Turn left at Turn 8 entry to North Paddock. Here is a link to a map- note that if you print the map in black and white, the arrows will not be visible. Be sure to share this information with your crew, family and friends who might be coming out on Friday or Saturday afternoon or evening. Please click the link below to view a map. At a well attended noise board hearing at Portland City Hall the committee voted 4-1 to approve the application for a variance to let the Indy Car series run at up to 115db. Yay! PIR and FOPIR as well as the representatives from Indy Car made their case in convincing fashion, along with overwhelming support from the racing community. Great job everyone… and now…. Let’s see some pro racing y’all!
Registration for drivers for CSCC Rose City Opener on May 5 and May 6 is now open on MotorsportsReg at msreg.com/RCityOpener. Registration is also open for volunteers for the same event on MotorsportsReg.com at msreg.com/RCOXXVII-vol. Club membership is not required to volunteer. It is very helpful to the Chiefs of Specialties to know in advance who is planning to work the event. Naturally, it is not a requirement to register on MSR but it is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Cascade History – 1959 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa on display at World of Speed in Wilsonville The World of Speed museum in Wilsonville is displaying a very rare Ferrari until March 31. The 1959 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa is known world-wide as TR59 #0768. They have the car because it was driven by 2018 NW Motorsports Hall of Fame inductee Pete Lovely. Pete raced the car in 1960 and then was able to buy it in 1968. He had the car restored in 1990 and it won at Pebble Beach Concours as well as the Monterey Historic races. This was also the car driven by World Champion Phil Hill in 1959 winning the LA Times Grand Prix . It then was sold to Dick Hahn from Yakima in 1962 and his driver Jerry Grant drove this car to the overall win at the 1962 Portland Rose Cup race organized by Cascade Sports Car Club. There were only 34 TR’s built between 1956-1961 and only 5 in 1959.
